Dr. Jessica N. Monnet is an assistant professor in the School of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico. Her research focuses on how federal- and state-level policies affect healthcare access and use in the United States, with a particular interest in maternal and reproductive healthcare and healthcare access among American Indian and Alaska Native populations. Specifically, she is interested in understanding how policies (such as Medicaid expansion, post-Dobbs abortion bans, etc.) either improve outcomes or contribute to health disparities. Leveraging administrative and publicly available data, her research has explored how federal- and state-level policies affect access to postpartum contraceptive care and abortion care. Before joining UNM, Dr. Monnet was a health economist at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2021-2026) and an assistant professor of economics at Sam Houston State University (2018-2021).
