Student Association of Healthcare Administrators (SAHA)

SAHASAHA is a graduate student organization at the University of New Mexico where students interested in healthcare administration can come together. The organization's mission is to provide opportunities for students to interact with peers and healthcare industry leaders in order to develop the professional skills and networks vital to achieving their career goals.

Lan Nguyen Lan Nguyen, President

Lan Nguyen was born and raised in the Land of Enchantment, Albuquerque, New Mexico. She received her baccalaureate in Political Science at UNM and is currently in the Masters in Health Administration program in the UNM School of Public Administration. Lan is set to complete her Master’s degree in December.

She is involved in many non-profit community associations and volunteers for the Vietnamese American Senior Association of New Mexico since 2008. Lan is also a Board Member of the Asian American Association of New Mexico. She enjoys exploring the great landscapes of New Mexico and cooking for family and friends.

James KaminskiJames Kaminski, Vice President

Originally from Pennsylvania, James Kaminski received an Associates of Science degree in Aviation Science, became licensed as an instrument rated pilot, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps before moving to Albuquerque in 2011. He graduated from UNM in 2015 with Bachelors of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Biology, with a minor in Chemistry.

James did three years of research course grain modeling DNA polymerase to study molecular dynamics and nanoscopic imaging utilizing the Atomic Force Microscope. Most recently he researched blain plasticity utilizing transcranial direct current to facilitate spontaneous neuronal activity. James currently is completing a dual master’s degree program in Health Administration and Public Health. 

Valoree AlthoffValoree Althoff, Treasurer

Valoree Althoff, RDH, BS, PRP graduated from the UNM in 2004 with a BS in dental hygiene. She is the current American Dental Hygienists' Association District IX Trustee, representing the interests of 150,000 dental hygienists across the nation. Valoree concurrently serves the National Association of Parliamentarians as the NM President and NAP District 6 Director. A MHA degree is valuable to Valoree to increase access to services, particularly oral care utilizing a dental hygienist, in the hospital and allied settings.

Jallahou Baigebo SandyJallahou Baigebo Sandy, Social Chair

Jallahou Baigebo Sandy is a MHA major who also earned his undergraduate degree from UNM. Jallahou is a father of 2 beautiful girls. Jallahou started at UNM in 2012 after he completed two associate programs from the Central New Mexico community college. While at CNM, Jallahou founded the African Students Association at CNM, and served as the organization’s president from 2010 to 2012.

Jallahou currently works for UnitedHealth Group as a Medical Claim Administrator and is volunteering at the VA hospital as patience service advocate. During his free time, Jallahou enjoying spending time with his family, reading and cooking. Jallahou’ s goals are to complete his MHA degree and start a Doctorate of Behavioral Health program through the Arizona State University.

Mickayla Karikari

Mickayla Karikari, Communications Chair 

Mickayla Karikari is originally from western Wisconsin, and holds Bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Biology, Chemistry, and Medical Laboratory Science. As a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, she currently supervises a Clinical Research Laboratory at UNM HSC. Over halfway done with the MHA program, Mickayla seeks to move into the operations side of healthcare delivery after graduation. She is interested in improving communication between caregiver groups and in healthcare.
